pens and needles

pens-and-needles

An extraordinary collabo by Danny Mansmith and Shawna Handke.

Danny Mansmith and I wanted to create a collaboration, and this dream resulted in a show in the Big Apple. Once I had the opportunity to show my artwork at the Fountainhead Gallery, I invited Danny to be a part of the event. As you can see, we created six original collaborations for the show. I had some scrap canvas tucked away that had been waiting for the perfect project, so I dug out the unprimed canvas and began creating drawings and sketches. Once I completed several drawings simply using pen and ink, I shipped the canvas to Danny and said, “do what you want with it…” The results are what you see. We had not met in person prior to the show, and we were communicating solely through mail. So when we finally arrived in the city and met one another in real life, it all seemed rather surreal.

of-montreal

Music is an art in itself yet this collabo by Of Montreal and Blik expands the perception of music not only in its flat square packaging but to other packaging formats as well.  In this case, Of Montreal’s latest album, Skeletal Lamping, gets visual representation through wall decals.

When you purchase this wall decal collection, you get a free download of Of Montreal’s music.

Could Be Me is a project exploring the possibility of one artist occupying another’s space. It is a visual adventure and an interpretation of the same sentence by different artists worldwide.”

Lithuanian artist Paul Paper invited other artists from all over to create original works of art that feature the phrase, “It could be me, but it’s actually Paul Paper.” Don’t you think it’s brilliant considering that over a hundred artists of different backgrounds willingly participated in this project.  I also love his photographs.

encouraging words

January 26th, 2009

I think when two or more people or groups collaborate on a project, the result would always be interesting.  Just so many ideas put into one pot and considering everyone is brilliant, what could go wrong?  I wish to see more collaborations by great minds  in the future.  Loving this project by booooooom.  It’s encouraging….
